Barcelona agreed to sign Daniel Alves

MADRID, June 7 - Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign Brazil back Daniel Alves from Sevilla, the player confirmed on Saturday.

"I am very pleased that agreement has been reached and I will join a club of the stature of Barcelona," Alves was quoted as saying Rac1 Spanish radio station.

"I am an ambitious player and we hope that joining a club as important, I will win titles."

Spanish media have reported that the 25-year international was set to pass a four-year contract for an amount of 29.5 million euros ($ 46.04 million), rising to 36 million euros depending on appearances and results.

Barca are expected to confirm the operation on Monday.

Alves, who can play on the right of defence or midfield, joined Seville Bahia for less than one million euros in 2003 and was an excellent player as they won back-to-back UEFA Cups in 2006 and 2007.

It is closely linked with a move to Chelsea last year, but since the end of this season has made little secret of its desire to join the Catalans.

Alves Barca will be the fourth new signing of the close season after the midfielder Seydou Keita and defenders Martin Caceres and Gerard Pique, who want to rebuild the side under new coach Pep Guardiola.

Arsenal midfielder Aleksandr Hleb would Barca is the next target.
