Ramon Calderon insists Manchester United have no evidence Real Matrid have acted inappropriately

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon insists Manchester United have "no evidence" that the Spanish giants have acted inappropriately in their pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo.

FIFA confirmed yesterday it has received a formal request for United to investigate the matter with the English club claiming Madrid have carried out a deliberate campaign to disrupt the 23 years, Portugal winger, currently in operation at the Euro 2008.

But Calderon is adamant his club have no case to answer.

He said today: "They have no evidence because nothing happened.

"All there is is what the newspapers say and rumors that the player seems to want to leave. But for the moment, a move is impossible because United do not want to sell.

"This is the United right (to complain) but we did nothing and we are not going to do anything. It is a matter between the player and his club. "

Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster has denied that the Spanish giants are "obsessed" with Ronaldo.

Schuster told the Spanish press will not let it overshadow the issue of its preparation for next season.

"Cristiano This question does not worry, nor am I obsessed with it," he told Spanish newspaper Marca.

"Although he is not playing for Madrid all that we can do is hope, but it is clear that it would be a great signing and adapt well to our team."

FIFA regulations say a club must inform the other if they are to enter into negotiations with one of their players, but they provide no sanction possible.

Regulations of FIFA does not foresee any sanction against Madrid, but will not say a club must inform the other if they are to enter into negotiations with one of their players.

The rules do not specifically state, however, that the club that owns the player must give their consent.

Article 18 of FIFA's regulation of the status and transfer of players states that: "A club intending to conclude a contract with a professional player must inform the club being in writing before entering into negotiations with him.

"A professional is free to enter into a contract with another club if his contract with his current club has expired or matures within six months. Any violation of this provision is subject to appropriate sanctions."

Sir United manager Alex Ferguson has already expressed his dislike of Madrid Ronaldo spying, arguing their main domestic rivals, Barcelona, refrain from public expressions of admiration for the other clubs players.

He is adamant neither Ronaldo wants, or will be, leaving Old Trafford this summer.

A statement on the club's official website, www.manutd.com yesterday read: "On 27 May, Manchester United made clear its intention to make the Real Madrid to FIFA if it continued to be involved in the future by Cristiano Ronaldo.

"Unfortunately, the Real Madrid has not kept its own counsel and the club believes it has no other choice but to make a formal complaint to the World Council of Trustees, which it did today.
